
Born and raised on the Northwest Side of Chicago (Humboldt Park), Carmen C. Rivera
realized at an early age that she aspired to be a positive voice in her community.
After attending Kelvyn Park High School and completing her Paralegal Certification at
Roosevelt University, she moved to Orlando, Fl. There she pursued a full-time career with
the Orlando Sentinel and started her own family.
In 1999, she returned to Chicago to attend DePaul University where she earned a
Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts with a major in multi-media communications and minor in
PR/Advertising and Marketing.
Ms. Rivera is dedicated to the concept that education is a key aspect to success. She has
completed numerous development programs while pursuing her MBA at Loyola University,
and she ultimately intends to add a PhD to her scroll of academic accomplishments.
When her career began in multi-media, in the mid ‘90s, Ms. Rivera was a key team member
that launched numerous memorable websites and interactive platforms, such as Orlando
Sentinel Online, BlackVoices.com, Go2Orlando and Digital City Orlando.
Before joining the Chicago Magazine in 2006 as Assistant to the Publisher, Ms Rivera held
several positions in the Editorial Dept of the Chicago Tribune.
In 2010, she added the position of blogger to her resume when she launched enChicago, a
blog dedicated to providing her unique perspective to issues that entertain and enlighten
the Hispanic community. Her efforts have won a growing audience among several ethnic
segments of the blogosphere.
Ms. Rivera’s goal is to use her blog as a platform to help those who cannot help themselves
and to become a symbol of what is possible for young women throughout Chicago, but

Ms. Rivera is a member of the 2011 class of the Metropolitan Leadership Institute. She also
serves on the Advisory Board of Directors of Latino Fashion Week, Communications Board
for Erie Neighborhood House and is a member of the National Association of Hispanic
Journalists. She is also a member of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, National
Society of Hispanic Journalists, supporter and member of the Hispanic Alliance for Career
Enhancement, and is also a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Cook County for Children
(CASA of Cook County). She takes the welfare of children in the court system as if they
were her own.
Ms. Rivera is a proud mother of 3 boys, a fierce child advocate, a social media passionista,
and a committed advocate for the diverse culture and arts of Chicago.
