The Phoenician, Arizona’s premier AAA Five Diamond resort destination, is
providing guests of all ages with a treasure-trove of new year-round activities
and events through The Luxury Collection Explorers program.  The initiative is
part of the “Love Your Family” travel program recently launched by parent
company Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., at resorts representing its
Sheraton, Westin, St. Regis and The Luxury Collection brands.

“A vacation is all about having fun, and our Explorers program is designed to
ensure that everyday is both uniquely entertaining and engaging,” said
Corporate Director of Fun Valerie Lee.  “With an extensive collection of signature
activities and events, we are creating meaningful experiences for all members
of the family, to be cherished for years to come.”

Families can participate in a variety of complimentary Phoenician signature
rituals*, including:
Fireside Stories, S’mores & Stars – Guests make traditional campfire treats
while listening to a cowboy sing songs and tell tales of the Old West.  A
telescope provides for some Sonoran stargazing.
Saturdays on the Lawn – Games of volleyball, bocce ball, croquet and
badminton, along with indigenous crafts such as Navajo Sand Painting, fill The
Phoenician grounds each weekend.
Splish-Splash Movie Bash – Guests can enjoy an evening swim while watching
a favorite film on the pool’s big screen.
Phoenician Audio Art Tour – This program allows guests to discover the deep
history and diversity found in the resort’s exclusive $25 million art collection.
Those who take the tour receive complimentary tickets to the Phoenix Art
Museum.
Phoenician Cactus Garden Tour – The two-acre Cactus Garden is a secluded
retreat showcasing 350 varieties of cacti and succulents.  Guided tours by The
Phoenician’s resident horticulturist, as well as self-guided excursions, are
available.

The Explorers program also features a diverse lineup of special holiday
activities throughout the year, including spring’s Easter Carnival; summer’s
Fourth of July All-American Ice Cream Social and winter’s lighting of the
Menorah and Christmas Eve reading by Mrs. Claus herself.  Other age-specific
seasonal events include cooking and scrapbooking classes; Texas Hold ‘Em
tournaments; rock and mineral exhibits; and junior tennis clinics and golf
camps.

No matter what time of year, the Explorers program has something for everyone
– kids, teens and adults.  For children 5-12, the Funicians Kids Club provides
daily supervised activities in half-day and full-day sessions.  At The Centre for
Well-Being Salon, mothers and daughters can share a relaxing afternoon
indulging in manicures and pedicures.  A truly exceptional evening awaits mom
and dad at The Phoenician’s monthly Specialty Dinner Series, which pairs
exquisite multi-course menus with extraordinary wines and spirits presented by
the masters of some of the world’s top vineyards and distilleries.

Complementing the myriad of enriching guest experiences offered is a new
Explorers Activity Center, featuring Ping-Pong; a video game room showcasing
the popular Nintendo Wii; and a theater where children and grown-ups alike can
watch movies at their leisure.  Resort guests can learn about all the activities
taking place during their stay with a visit to the Explorers Club Welcome Center,
where they can check out books and board games as well.

THE PHOENICIAN
TRANSFORMS GUEST
EXPERIENCE
WITH EVOLUTIONARY
APPROACH AS
DEFINITIVE LUXURY RESORT
DESTINATION

New Ballroom, Premiere Restaurant
Offerings and Complete Interior Redesign
Highlight $70 Million Master Plan

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.
– Responding to the needs of a changing
and increasingly diverse travel audience, The
Phoenician is putting a contemporary design
on the luxury resort experience.  Introducing a
variety of distinctive guest options within a
more relaxed, residential setting, the 250-
acre property will serve as the definitive
resort destination.  The $70 million project,
which launched in fall 2006, encompasses
all 647 guestrooms; the main lobby and tea
court; retail and restaurant venues; as well
as an innovative family activity center; and
culminates in June 2008 with the
groundbreaking for a 42,000 square-foot
conference facility and ballroom.

Creating the majority of The Phoenician’s
new classic, modern look and ambiance is
Cádiz Design Studio of Huntington Beach,
Calif., under the direction of Lorraine Francis.

The Terrace, currently offering traditional
American dishes, will bring even more
diversity to the dining experience when it
reopens in May as Il Terrazzo, an Italian
restaurant featuring authentic national
cuisine, including homemade pastas and
breads.  The AAA Four Diamond
establishment will also undergo a $1 million
refurbishment, creating distinct divisions of
space within the restaurant.  New furniture
and draping will offer a classic boutique
atmosphere, complemented by warm
architectural details such as upholstered
panels, polished nickel and contemporary
chandeliers.  Woven recycled fiber and teak
tables will define the inviting al fresco
setting.  With the addition of cozy living room
furniture, The Bar at Il Terrazzo will serve as a
central meeting/gathering place for both
guests and visitors.  The restaurant’s upper
level will also be re-configured as a more
casual dining area, and named Luce di
Terrazzo (Terrace “Light”).  Offering a
convenient continental breakfast and a variety
of specialty coffees, along with the restaurant’
s full menu throughout the day, this section
will feature long, tall, shared tables for those
guests on the go.  Il Terrazzo will continue the
integration of the pleasant, earthy tones of
browns and blues found throughout the
resort.

In addition, The Café and Ice Cream Parlor
will be revamping its menu with a variety of
American favorites.

All four restaurants will offer an entertaining,
lively and welcoming dining atmosphere,
while maintaining The Phoenician’s AAA Five
Diamond standards.

Family Activity Center – A $500,000 retrofit to
The Tennis Garden building this spring will
create a home for The Phoenician’s new
Family Activity Center.  The facility will include
a theater complete with a 72-inch-wide
cinema screen and surround-sound speaker
system.  The center will also feature a 60-
inch plasma television and the popular
Nintendo Wii interactive game system.

The Canyon Suites – Arizona’s first boutique
resort within a resort.  A $5.5 million redesign
completed in spring 2007 combined classic
textures and warmer hues with sculptured
furnishings and plush fabrics, producing a
more sophisticated, timeless feel throughout
the 60-room hotel.  Offering the rich splendor,
services and amenities of The Phoenician,
the AAA Five Diamond Canyon Suites also
provides added privacy and numerous
signature features to create a more intimate,
personalized experience.  Canyon
Ambassadors – approximately one to every
10 guestrooms – greet each visitor upon
arrival, and are well versed in their
preferences.  Other exclusive Canyon Suites
features include an infinity pool, afternoon
wine tastings and chauffeur-driven Mercedes.

The Phoenician Guestrooms, Main Lobby
and Tea Court – This $12 million project,
completed in January, included the total
renovation of all 587 Phoenician
guestrooms.  An extension of the more
inviting, soothing ambiance created within
The Canyon Suites, these three areas also
incorporate the indigenous tones of the rich
Sonoran desert throughout their carpeting
and fabrics.  Guestroom additions include
furnishings more residential in feel, as well
as classic Southwestern artwork.

The Phoenician Retail Arcade – A refit
completed in January included the debut of
Attitude, a swimwear and sleepwear shop.
Comforts, previously featuring both bath and
sleepwear items, has also been converted to
offer signature bath and body products
exclusively.  In addition, contemporary
couture and designer collections
characteristic of trend-setting boutiques have
been introduced in the men’s and women’s
apparel shops.

The Phoenician Residences – Presenting yet
another alternative for enjoying The
Phoenician’s all-encompassing luxury resort
experience is The Phoenician Residences.
Through a $5 million renovation, the property’
s villa complex has been transformed into a
fractional ownership community.  Initially
consisting of seven exquisite units, another
five residences are scheduled to be added
next year.  Unique two- and three-bedroom
floor plans, ranging from 1,400 to 2,400
square feet, are currently available.  Select
features offered include imported Irish
linens, rich hardwood floors, a travertine
fireplace, a private plunge pool, outdoor
summer kitchen with gas grill and LCD
televisions.

Located at the base of Camelback Mountain,
the 250-acre Phoenician resort offers two
exquisite experiences – a 587-room AAA Five
Diamond luxury hotel and an exclusive Five
Diamond boutique hotel, The Canyon Suites
-- at one magnificent destination.  The resort
features elegant, newly renovated
accommodations, distinctive and tantalizing
cuisine across nine restaurants, 27 holes of
championship golf, 12 lighted tennis courts,
The Centre for Well-Being spa complex, a
variety of boutique shops and a $25 million
art collection.  In addition to these offerings,
the stylish 60-room Canyon Suites provides
more intimate surroundings and enhanced
services, creating an atmosphere of
uncompromising splendor.  Both The
Phoenician and The Canyon Suites are
owned and operated by Starwood Hotels &
Resorts Worldwide, Inc., as part of The
Luxury Collection. For additional information,

THE PHOENICIAN's TERRAZZO
AUTHENTIC ITALIAN RESTAURANT

National Fare including Homemade Breads, Pastas; Contemporary Sunday Brunch;
under Direction of New Chef de Cuisine Victor Casanova

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (May 29, 2008) – The Phoenician, Arizona’s definitive luxury resort destination, brings
greater culinary diversity to the table next month with the debut of Il Terrazzo, the AAA Five Diamond property’s
newest dining alternative.  The authentic Italian restaurant, featuring signature cuisine from all regions of the
country, opens its doors on Monday morning, June 2.

The result of a $1 million transformation to The Terrace, the resort’s traditional American-style restaurant, Il
Terrazzo ushers in a new era of casual elegance – in both ambiance and offerings -- for breakfast, lunch and
dinner.

The distinct yet assorted menu will be highlighted by a hand-crafted bread service showcasing numerous
artisan loaves, baked everyday on property.  Homemade pastas featured in such tempting entrees as
agnolotti (pasta packets filled with sweet corn, mascarpone, goat cheese and thyme in a brown butter sage
sauce) will also capture the rich, indigenous flavors of this Southern European region.  Other signature
entrees will include tagliata (black angus rib cap with wilted spinach and squid ink gnocchi, served with
lemon-horseradish gremolata and topped with crispy calamari); and cacciucco (spicy Tuscan seafood stew
with plum tomatoes, Sardinian fregola, squid, clams, shrimp and mussels).  In addition, a cheese cart
complete with such notable varieties as parmigiano reggiano (a raw milk cheese with a full-flavored taste,
produced for 700 years in Northern Italy) and taleggio (featuring a soft, creamy interior, and rich, buttery, fruity
and slightly salty flavor) will help to tell Italy’s savory culinary story.   From time-honored breakfast dishes
infused with classic Italian ingredients, to decadent desserts such as a rustic ricotta cheesecake, guests will
taste the genuine charm and appeal of the “bel paese.”

Complementing the three-meal menu will be a contemporary Sunday Brunch that combines traditional
favorites with timeless, original Italian fare in a refined, residential setting.  The weekly event is scheduled to
debut in mid-summer.

Leading the culinary team at Il Terrazzo will be Chef de Cuisine Victor Casanova.  A graduate of The Institute
of Culinary Education, he most recently served as Sous Chef at New York’s Ocean Grill, where he was in
charge of menu development and staff training while overseeing the operations of two dining rooms.  His
prior experience also includes two years as Sous Chef for Neros at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas; and four
years as Chef at Buca Giovanni in San Francisco, where he designed a boutique all-Italian wine list while
executing a daily farmers’ market menu.  Casanova honed his culinary skills as a line cook at such
celebrated New York establishments as the chic, Northern Italy-influenced Alto and Tuscan-style Beppe; the
French-American DB Bistro Moderne and the inventive American Gramercy Tavern.

“Il Terrazzo, along with our AAA Four Diamond Windows on the Green Southwestern restaurant and the much
anticipated J&G Steakhouse debuting this fall, provides Phoenician guests with a very unique and
memorable dining experience,” said Managing Director Mark Vinciguerra.  “At the same time, it fills a
gastronomic void within the local market, providing residents with a relaxed yet stylish setting for enjoying the
best in upscale Italian cuisine.”
