Beautiful Rita Moreno, winner of an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and a Tony award, was the guest of honor at Chicago Latino Fashion Week, November 2, 2008, which celebrated Legendary Latin Stars of early Hollywood. After being photographed by Steve Starr who asked her thoughts about the past, Moreno stated: “I miss it! I miss the glamour. There are a few stars today who have that…Gwyneth Paltrow and, in particular, Cate Blanchett, and others. Back then it was the mystery…the allure…today they tell too much…we know too much.”
Chicago Latino Fashion Week, produced by Cesar Rolon and Arabel Rosales, which ran October 27 -November 2, held seven glittering days of fashion at numerous venues that included the International Designers Showcase at the Alhambra Palace that featured creations by local designer Jorge del Busto and the stunning San Juan Fashion Group which included Puerto Rico’s most recognized designers, Lillian Landron, Felix Poll for Poll and Flox, accessory designer Natalia Morales for Stella Nolasco, and Tommie Hernandez at the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts. The week culminated in a glittering fashion event in the gorgeous Grand Ballroom of the Drake Hotel where six hundred guests, newscasters, politicians, fashion icons, celebrities and designers from across Latin America beheld the elegant designs of Orlando Espinoza, Elda de La Rosa, Horacio Nieto, Carol Pineiro, James de Colon, and Anna Fong. The evening was hosted by the wonderful ABC 7 News Anchor Sylvia Perez, exquisitely choreographed with celebrities and Telemundo News reporters Nelly Carreno, Tsi-tsi-ki Felix, Michelle Alegria and Alfonso Gutierrez, handsome Master of Ceremonies Sergio Rojas and 2007 America’s Top Model winner Jaslene Gonzales modeling a collection of sumptuous furs from Hana K on a ninety-six foot runway.
Following the event, guests attended another exciting gala with entertainment by the talented recording artist Jesus Enriquez at Macy’s on State Street where Rita Moreno, bejeweled in an elegant red gown by James de Colon, was presented the honorary Latino Legends of Hollywood Award.
