When I started my hospitality
career in the early "90's" at
McCormick Hotel I was invited
to the new Vivo Italian
restaurant in the Randolph
Street market area.  This was
the old fashioned produce
neighborhood where I used to
buy the most beautiful fresh
fruits I ever saw that would
adorn my home at Christmas
time.  I would carve out the
huge red delicious apples and
insert candles and give them
away when my guest would
leave.  And as I arrived for my
first visit to Vivo I thought,
"what is happening here?"

Now we know.   The impact of
this charming and beautiful
dining home that made its
mark on Randolph Street lead
the way for the areas "welcome
to the west end of town".

Executive Chef, Vicente Duran,
has been a part of Vivo since
day one. Vicente believes that
the best Italian food is
straightforward and true to its
roots. There are no tricks here
at Vivo, just
honest-to-goodness Italian
food served in a chic setting.

the environment
The room is absolutely
amazing with stacks of wine
bottles making an elegant twist
to the exposed brick walls and
rustic wood floors. Exposed
beams, soft lighting, and
whimsical floral arrangements
take the edge off the
enormous amount of business
diners that frequent Vivo. Vivo
is the number one place to
take that someone special.
The tables along the wall of
wine are sought after, but it
would be a tragedy to Vivo if
we did not mention the table in
the converted elevator shaft.
The table where Michael
Jordan, Oprah, and practically
everyone that makes a
reservation wants to sit, is
perched above the rest of the
dining room with its own private
velvet curtains. It is always
booked a month in advance
and is the one table in the
windy city that actually can be
booked years in advance.
