Alison Levenstein, founder and CEO of Gold Coast Concierge, offers the solutions to people’ s time management challenges. As a lifelong resident of Long Island’s North Shore, she identified a need in her community for home help. By talking with busy parents on the youth ball fields and at school functions, she realized that her own skills for time management, attention to detail and gift for multitasking would make her the ideal person to help others.
She set about to create a company that would be warm and personable and at the same time offering the professionalism that the upscale community demands. This new business model has come to fruition in Gold Coast Concierge and has earned a stellar reputation.
The services offered range from personal assistance services such as running daily errands and home maintenance for people who travel frequently to event planning, research and information gathering for decision making, as well as holiday preparation and planning assistance, new mother and elder hospitality.
Gold Coast Concierge is located on the North Shore of Long Island in Roslyn Heights, New York and services all of Long Island, from Manhattan to the Montauk.

known as the Gold Coast. It is one of the oldest villages on Long Island, being first
settled in 1643. The settlement quickly grew and became known as Hempstead Harbor.
By 1658, 60 families lived in Hempstead Harbor. The town still has some of the original
homes, the oldest being Van-Nostrand Starkins house, dating Back to 1680. The town
changed it's name from Hempstead Harbor to Roslyn on September 7, 1844 due to
postal confusion regarding all the other "Hempsteads" in Long Island.
2.Geroge Washinton actually did stay here! In 1790, George Washington toured Long
Island and visited a well to do business man named Hendrick Onderdonk. The
Onderdonk family had built one of the first griss mills on Long Island. At the time of the
American Revolution, Onderdonk (a rebel sympathizer) risked his life in smuggling secret
messages out of his paper mill to West Point. This was particularly important to George
Washington after the disastrous defeat of the Continental Army in the Battle of Long
Island. The messages about what the British were doing on Long Island were hidden
between stacks of paper. (Many further believe that Onderdonk was a member of the spy
ring that George Washington had operating on Long Island--one of its members being
Nathan Hale). On the morning of April 24th in 1790, Onderdonk and his family received
General Washington for breakfast. A local paper wrote: "In 1790 when Mr. Onderdonk
had now become a wealthy man and lived in corresponding style, word was suddenly
brought him early on the morning of April 24th that General George Washington, who was
making a tour of the Island, would soon be along to take breakfast with him. The family
was already seated at the table and had roasted clams. The women were so startled at
the announcement that they sprang up from their seats and in their haste swept off the
shells, saucers and cups in an indiscriminate mess into their aprons and soon cleaned
off the table for a more formal repast of the President of the United States." Washington
recorded the visit to Roslyn in his journal. He wrote: "Saturday 24th--Left Mr. Young's
before seven o'clock and passing Musketoe Cove (now Glen Cove) breakfasted at Mr.
Onderdonk's where we were kindly received and well entertained. This gentleman works
a gristmill and two paper mills, the last of which he seems to carry on with spirit and to
profit."
(From The Archives of Roslyn's Bryant Library) The Onderdonk family home is still here. It
is now the Geroge Wahington Mannor, and hosts dinners and events.
3. One of the oldest estates still standing in Roslyn, is Cedarmere, the private residence
of William Cullen Bryant, prominent nineteenth-century American poet, civic leader and
newspaper editor. He built the home to get away from the fast pace life in New York City,
and to commune with nature. The home sits on top of a hill and over looks Hempstead
Bay. William Cullen Bryant, lived in Cedarmere from 1843 until his death in 1878. It is
now a museum of Nassau County.
4. The most famous estate no longer in existence was "Harbor Hill" the estate of
Clarence Mackay. McKay chose the spot to build his new home, because it was the
highest point on Long Island. It was designed by the famous architect Stanford White of
the architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White. White had designed the original
Madison Square Garden. His fame made it easy to move into the right social circles of
the time and acquire this very special commission. He completed Harbor Hill in 1901. Mr.
McKay could afford this very extravagant house because he was the owner of the
Commercial Cable Company, which had the first trans-Atlantic cable. The McKay home
was host to a grand party for the Prince of Wales, who became King Edward VIII in 1936
and subsequently, the the Duke of Windsor after abdicating the throne and the grand
party for aviator Charles Lindbergh upon his return from his famous trans-Atlantic flight.
5. The most famous church was paid for by Mrs. McKay and was designed and built by
Standford White. The New Trinity Episcopal Church was completed in 1907. The church
still stands today with it's beautiful stained glass windows and it still has an active
congregation.
6. Want to take in a little bit of culture? The Nassau County Museum of Fine Art, gets
world class exhibits. Artists such as Manet, Monet, Magritte, and Dali have all had shows
there. The Museum its self is a piece of art. In 1919, Henry Clay Frick, co-founder of U.S.
Steel Corporation, purchased the Georgian mansion that now houses the Museum as a
wedding gift for his son, Childs Frick. The house is built on 145 acres of formal gardens
that host many sculpture exhibits.
7. Do you remember the line in Billy Joel's song "It's Sill Rock in Roll to Me", that asks
"are you going to cruise the Miracle Mile?" Well, that's not a metaphor for looking for a
perfect life. It's right here in Roslyn. One mile of the most high end stores are to be found
on Northern Boulevard, that would rival anything from Rodeo Drive to Fifth Avenue. They
don't call the North Shore of Long Island, which Roslyn is part of, the Gold Coast for no
reason!
8. So with our great history, there must be some notable people to come out of this town,
Right? Here we go: Frances Hodgson Burnett, author of The Secret Garden, A Little
Princess and Little Lord Fauntleroy
Michael Crichton, author Jurassic Park and creator ER
William Cullen Bryant, poet, journalist and editor Chris Miller, co-writer of the screenplay
for the film "Animal House"
Fred Wilpon, owner of the New York Mets
William Casey, former director of the CIA
Darryl Strawberry, former Major League Baseball outfielder I don't know if it's fair that my
little Roslyn should have to own up to this, but for full disclosure Bernard Madoff, former
chairman of the NASDAQ stock exchange, perpetuated the largest investor fraud ever
committed by a single individual, came from Roslyn. So the next time you think of Long
Island as an area with only sleepy bedroom communities, rethink that. Roslyn is just one
of many towns here on Long Island with much to offer.

The Montauk Point Lighthouse is the first lighthouse built in New York State and the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States. The Second Congress, under President George Washington, authorized its construction in 1792.
The light flashes every 5 seconds and can be seen from a distance of 19 nautical miles. Its beam is cast across the water with the power of 2,500,000 candles.
